#American Airlines Expands in #Miami With New Route to #Barcelona

27 Jan

American Airlines, a member of the oneworld® alliance and trans-Atlantic joint business partner with Iberia and British Airways, will expand its operations at Miami International Airport (MIA) with the launch of Miami – Barcelona (BCN) service on April 3, 2012. The flight will operate five times a week until June 14 when it will operate daily.

As part of a joint business reorganization of flights, Iberia will increase its Miami to Madrid service as it grows its presence at Madrid’s Barajas Airport (MAD). Effective March 25 Iberia will add a second MIA-MAD flight four times per week. American will continue to operate one daily MIA-MAD flight.

American’s new route connects its Miami hub to Barcelona’s El Prat International Airport. Barcelona is one of Europe’s top tourist destinations, as well as a city with a thriving business community. The new flight will complement American’s existing service from JFK in New York.

Barcelona will be the 111th destination served by American and its regional carrier American Eagle from MIA. The flights will be operated with Boeing 767-300 aircraft with 225 seats including 30 Business Class seats and 195 seats in the Main Cabin. American’s Business Class is designed to give customers more comfort, flexibility and privacy. Fully-motorized lie-flat seats in a 2-2-2 configuration offer a personal inflight entertainment device with audio and video on demand, state-of-the-art cabin lighting and sleek, ergonomically-designed overhead bins, all enhancing the travel experience for the business customer.

Frequent flyers can also benefit from American’s reciprocal agreement with Iberia on this new service by earning and redeeming miles in addition to upgrade opportunities and access to joint promotions.

“The addition of Barcelona further underscores the importance of our Miami hub and our commitment to its growth,” said Peter Dolara, American’s Senior Vice President based in Miami. “Barcelona and Miami are both important tourism and business destinations as well cruise ports. This flight will further expand South Florida’s historical ties to Spain and will complement our service to Madrid as well as Iberia’s increased service to Spain’s capital city.”

#American Airlines Increases Service to #Latin #America

27 Jan

American Airlines today announced changes to its spring and summer schedule that will expand the airline’s presence in Brazil. Beginning in December, American’s route between Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Sao Paulo (GRU) will operate with the new state-of-the-art Boeing 777-300ER, making Brazil the first market for the new aircraft. Further emphasizing American’s commitment to Latin America, the airline will increase its service between DFW and Sao Paulo beginning in June.

In 2010, American announced plans to order the Boeing 777-300ER, demonstrating a continuation of the airline’s efforts to enhance its fleet and become more fuel efficient. American is the first U.S. airline to order and take delivery of the 777-300ER. The new aircraft is designed to enhance the customer experience and includes fully lie-flat First and Business Class seats, plus seating plans that will allow American to offer a premium product in the Main Cabin and Wi-Fi capability to keep customers connected while traveling internationally.

American will also increase the total number of weekly flights between DFW and Sao Paulo from seven times per week to 12 times per week beginning June 14. Also on June 14, flights from Miami to Brasilia (BSB) and to Belo Horizonte (CNF) will increase from five and three times per week, respectively, to daily.

In addition to the increased service between DFW and Sao Paulo, American will launch new service that connects its Miami hub to Manaus, Brazil beginning in June.

“We recognize the opportunity of the Latin American market. Our increased network announcements, along with the deployment of the 777-300ER, emphasizes American’s dedication to the region,” said Virasb Vahidi, American’s Chief Commercial Officer. “We are devoted to our global network strategy and plan to continue capitalizing on international opportunities like those announced today to strengthen our network and provide great customer service.”

Manaus will be the seventh destination served by American in Brazil. American currently offers more routes between the two countries than any other airline. The flight will be operated on Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 160 seats, including 16 Business Class seats and 144 seats in the Main Cabin. The 737-800 interior offers several unique features, including larger overhead bins that hold more bags than standard overhead bins. The aircraft also includes additional features such as sculpted sidewalls providing customers a feeling of spaciousness, updated window reveals making the windows appear larger and brighter, and longer-lasting LED lighting to enhance the customer experience. The route is currently scheduled four times per week, and customers can book travel beginning Jan. 29. Yesterday, American filed with the U.S. Department of Transportation for authority to begin daily service in this market.

#Iberia increases seat supply to #Costa_Rica

27 Jan

Reflecting its commitment to growth in the long-haul market, this year Iberia is to increase the number of seats available on its flights between Madrid and San José, in Costa Rica, by 5.5% to more than 234,000. The Spanish airline will operate more flights to the Costa Rican capital using larger aircraft, the A340-600s that have 100 seats more than the aircraft usually operated on the route.

Flights are timed for convenient connections to/from Iberia’s 32 destinations in Spain, 40 in the rest of Europe, and 11 in Africa and the Middle East.

During last week’s FITUR tourism trade fair in Madrid, Costa Rica’s Minister for Tourism, Allan Flores, said “Iberia’s increased seat supply between Madrid and San José is wonderful news for our country and reflects the excellent work done in the past several years by Iberia and the Costa Rican Tourism Institute to promote this destination and improve air links from the key European markets, chiefly Germany, Spain, France, the UK and Italy. Costa Rican entrepreneurs taking part in FITUR have remarked on the positive results obtained, and how enlarging the supply of seats can contribute to the progress of our tourist industry.”

Ángel Valdemoros, head of international sales for Iberia, said “Costa Rica is an emblematic destination for Iberia and we’re betting heavily on our growth prospects in this market, while we introduce improvements to both business and tourist class.”

Iberia holds a 43% share of the Europe-Costa Rica market, while the market share in the Business Class comes to 66%. Last year it carried nearly 186,000 passengers on the Madrid-San José route, of whom more than three-fourths made connections to or from other cities in Spain or elsewhere in Europe, most particularly France, Italy, and Germany.

#United – #Continental: la fusion avance | Air Journal

27 Jan
